Coaching
Masters swimming got me interested in coaching. I hooked up with the Buenaventura Swim Club in 1986. The club found a home for me working with beginners. I had such a good time I coached until I got married in 1999.
My job: teach the strokes, spark some interest in competing, but most important of all – have fun. We had special summer programs, intramural meets and went to US swim meets across the county. Kids, parents and coaches became my family. It’s an extraordinary experience seeing kids you’ve worked with become state champions or being recognized by a former swimmer or parent years later.
